1. Who we are
Tidy Builder is run by Uncle Polar Limited (“we” or “us”), a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17312029. Our registered office is 20 Wenlock Road, London, N1 7GU, United Kingdom.
You can contact us at hello@tidybuilder.com.
2. What Tidy Builder does
Tidy Builder helps homeowners, builders and other professionals keep one shared record of a building project: quotes, changes, contracts, drawings, materials, decisions, site-visit points and messages. It also gives businesses tools to run their work.
We are not a party to your building project. Any quote, change or contract you agree in Tidy Builder is between you and the other party. We don't do building work, check anyone's work or guarantee that anyone will do what they agreed.
3. Your account
- You must be 18 or over to have an account.
- Give us accurate details and keep your sign-in secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- If you add a business, you confirm you're allowed to act for it. Everyone you add to your business can see its work.
- Tell us straight away if you think someone else has used your account.
4. Agreeing things in Tidy Builder
- When you tick to agree a quote, change or point, or type your name to sign a contract, you're making a real agreement with the other party. We record who agreed, what they saw, the words they ticked and when.
- Anything sent for agreement is locked. Changing it makes a new version that has to be agreed again.
- If you tick something by mistake, you can undo it within 10 minutes, unless the other party has already acted on it.
- Homeowners can cancel within 14 days. If you're a homeowner (a consumer) and you agree a quote, change or contract away from the builder's premises or online, the law usually gives you 14 days to cancel without a reason. Tidy Builder has a Cancel button for this and tells the builder. If you asked for work to start within those 14 days, you pay for the work done up to the time you cancel. Nothing in Tidy Builder takes away your legal rights.
- Builders: a homeowner's tick doesn't remove their right to cancel. Before starting work within the 14 days, make sure the homeowner has asked you to.
- The standard contract terms we offer are a plain-English starting point, not legal advice. You choose whether to use them. Take your own legal advice if you're unsure.
5. Drafts, translations and estimates
- Some features use artificial intelligence (Claude, made by Anthropic) to draft replies, write up site visits, suggest scope items or translate messages. These are drafts only. A person always checks them before anything reaches another party. You're responsible for what you send.
- The original wording counts. Messages, quotes, changes and contracts are agreed in the words they were written in. Translations are there to help you understand each other, but they can contain mistakes. If a translation and the original differ, the original counts. If you're not sure what something means, ask before you agree.
- The ticked, written point is the agreement. Site-visit points are drafted from a recording and can mishear what was said. The builder must check each point before sharing it. When the homeowner ticks a point, the written point is what has been agreed, not the recording or the transcript.
- Cost guides and estimates are rough indications, not quotes.
6. What you put in
- You keep ownership of everything you upload or write: photos, drawings, documents, messages and so on.
- You give us permission to store, copy, display and process it as needed to run Tidy Builder for you and the people you share it with. This includes translating it and making PDF records of agreements.
- Only upload things you have the right to share.
- Recording site visits: before you record, you must tell everyone present and get their agreement. That includes people who don't use Tidy Builder, such as other trades. The app asks you to list who was there and records that you confirmed their agreement. If anyone says no, don't record.
7. Rules for using Tidy Builder
Please don't:
- break the law, or use Tidy Builder to mislead, harass or defraud anyone
- upload anything harmful, offensive or that you don't have the right to share
- try to get into accounts, projects or data that aren't yours
- copy, scrape, overload or interfere with Tidy Builder, or try to get around its security
- post false reviews or false details in the Find a builder directory
We may suspend or close an account that breaks these rules. Where we can, we'll tell you why first.
8. Plans and payment
- Taking part in a shared project is always free.
- The business plan and the homeowner plan are paid subscriptions. Prices are shown before you subscribe. Payments are taken by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- Plans renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Billing and keep your plan until the end of the period you've paid for.
- If you're a consumer you can cancel a new subscription within 14 days for a full refund. If you start using paid features within those 14 days, we may keep a fair amount for the time you used.
- We'll give you at least 30 days' notice of any price change. You can cancel before it takes effect.
- Payments between you and the other party (for example invoices a builder sends a client) are between you. We only provide the tools.
9. Keeping Tidy Builder running
We work hard to keep Tidy Builder available and your data safe. We can't promise it will never be interrupted, for example during maintenance or problems outside our control. We may change or improve features over time. If we stop a paid feature you rely on, we'll tell you in advance.
Keep your own copies of anything important. You can download your data at any time in Settings.
10. Our responsibility to you
- If you're a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. We're responsible for loss you suffer that was a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or not using reasonable care and skill.
- We're not responsible for the building work itself, for what other users do or say, or for decisions you make based on information in Tidy Builder.
- If you use Tidy Builder for a business, we're not responsible for lost profits, lost business or indirect loss. Our total responsibility to a business in any 12 months is limited to what it paid us in that time.
- Nothing limits our responsibility for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't allow us to limit.
11. Closing your account
You can delete your account at any time in Settings. Agreement records stay with the other party, because they rely on them. See our privacy policy for what we keep and why.
12. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
13. The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute goes to the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring a claim in your local courts.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first at hello@tidybuilder.com. We'll try to put it right.
